In his lecture Andrew Zimmerman, professor at George Washington University, discusses how German Union soldiers drawing on European Communism and enslaved rebels drawing on Afro-American religious traditions forced emancipation on an unwilling Union leadership and helped defeat the Confederacy during the American Civil War.
