The Gewandhausorchester is the oldest civic symphony orchestra in the world, founded in 1743. Andris Nelsons assumed the position of Gewandhausorchester music director in the 2017/18 Season and is also music director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra thereby creating an unprecedented collaboration between the two world-class orchestras. Gewandhausorchester’s Boston tour is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the fabled German Peaceful Revolution of October 9, 1989.
