The Gewandhausorchester is the oldest civic symphony orchestra in the German-speaking world, founded in 1743. Andris Nelsons assumed the position of Gewandhausorchester music director in the 2017/18 Season and is also music director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra thereby creating an unprecedented collaboration between the two world-class orchestras. Gewandhausorchester’s Boston tour is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the fabled German Peaceful Revolution of October 9, 1989. This joint concert with the Boston Symphony Orchestra marks a world premier.
During its Boston appearance the GHO gives two concerts on his own and – as a world premiere – three concerts together with the BSO. The tour is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the fabled Peaceful Revolution of the 9th of October 1989. In addition, the tour marks 45 years of regular guest appearances of the GHO in the United States.
