In cooperation with American and German radio producers and broadcasters the Goethe-Institut USA produces roughly 50 radio features for a program titled The Big Pond. A US-German Listening Series. Features are being broadcasted nation-wide on a weekly basis. All are available for free download in podcast format.
In this episode: On June 24, 1948, the Soviets officially cut off roads and rails into West Berlin in the Berlin Blockade, isolating it from the rest of West Germany. In this episode of The Big Pond, radio station KCRW Berlin reflects on the Berlin Airlift, a massive multinational effort to bring vital supplies to West Berliners via plane during the blockade. To tell this story, producers Monika, Nikki, and Sylvia interview those who experienced it firsthand.
