LitHAUS is a monthly reading series for contemporary German-language literature. Each month’s selection will be accompanied by a talk or discussion around the work and its wider themes.
The LitHAUS selection for the month of May is The Fox and Dr. Shimamura by Christine Wunnicke. The book tell the story of Dr. Shimamura, a young Japanese physician. He is tasked with finding a cure for an epidemic that has possessed young provencial women: foxes. His research takes him to Europe where he works with the likes of Charcot, Breuer and even Freud.
Reading the book is encouraged but not required. Everyone is welcome to join!
