Together with Stray Cat Film Center, Goethe Pop Up Kansas City invites you to What’s left? Films from former East Germany, a series of film screenings curated by Dr. Larson Powell, Professor of Film Studies at University of Missouri–Kansas City.
This week, Goethe Pop Up welcomes all for a screening of Solo Sunny by Konrad Wolf (1980). The movie is set in the GDR at the end of the 70s and tells the story of Ingrid Sommer, a young woman working in a factory who tries to launch a singing career under the name Sunny. A story balancing between sadness and hope, and, retrospectively, a wonderfully precise and authentic film about life in the GDR.
The movie is shown in German with English subtitles.
