Goethe Pop Up Seattle is partnering with local publisher Fantagraphics to invite Berlin-based American artist Ali Fitzgerald for an exclusive launch of her new memoir Drawn to Berlin. In 2015, Ali Fitzgerald, along with Berlin’s refugee shelter (Berliner Stadtmission), started to host comic workshops for refugees. Unable to communicate in one shared language, the refugees used drawings as a way of expression. Entwining political and personal displacement, Fitzgerald’s graphic memoir Drawn to Berlin is about loss, community, and the drawings that bind us.
