In a rare constellation, the exhibition Show me your Shelves! realizes an artistic dialogue between black artists from Germany and the US. The show brings together four artists reflecting on existing common structures, experiences, as well as differences between German Afro-Diasporic cultures and lifestyles and African American perspectives. The exhibition presents installations, films, sound and performance pieces in different branches of the Detroit Public Library.
Within the framework of the exhibition artist Bree Gant talks about her work Otherlogue, installed at the Skillman Branch of the Detroit Public Library. Otherlogue is a fantasy narrative written in sculpture and installation about Eez, a Black womanfolk artist in Detroit. The work is a study of the crossroads of placemaking, ritual, and mental health.
